New Back Splash

Our kitchen has the same plain backsplash that was installed when the house was built over 30 years ago.    I have looked at new ones again and again and can't find one that looks like what I have in mind.
I am thinking about making a framed back splash to attach to the existing one....am I crazy....maybe!

I am trying a smaller version of what I have in mind to see how I like it......

Could I     (well could H...LOL)    make a picture frame the size of each section of the backsplash  and make something similar to this....only on a larger scale?    Then just attach it to the existing back splash.....I'll run my idea  past H and see if he thinks I'm crazy!

H helped me pack away all the Christmas decor in the kitchen this morning.....thank you honey!   I have this section of the counter put back together.
We are planning a few updates it the kitchen this year.    The range and hood vent are going to be replaced......

I can't wait to get a smooth top range again like the one we had in our previous home and I want a hood vent with better lighting for the stove.top.

I made a little toddy bar on the counter to enjoy on a cold night......

Here is the counter before Christmas...........................................................................and after

The upper oven went out during all the Christmas baking.    It's the original ovens and have been repaired at least once   so it's time for new ones.     We had to special order them and hopefully the new ovens will be in the 28th of January.   The self cleaning part went out several years ago and the timer hasn't worked since we moved. in.

 I am so excited!!!

  5. Penny,
Can't wait to see all the updates that you have planned. Luckily , our townhouse had a white tile back splash were most of the other ones had the gold or avocado green tiles!! Same thing in the upstairs bathroom. We have white tile where a lot of the other townhouses in our development had the gold or green!! Thanks God i picked this house when we bought it!!
I have thought about doing a copper celing tile look for a new back splash but realized it would make my already dark Kitchen even darker so i am keeping my white tile until we sell and move into an apartment!!

    Hugs,
    Deb

  7. I like your idea of doing a detachable backsplash. It woud be easier to clean, if you move you can take it with you and can change it out as inspiration hits you.

  10. That is such a genius idea for a backsplash! Sorry to hear that your oven went out but so glad your getting new one soon and a new vent hood and stove! I may have to replace my dishwasher soon, it is starting to make a squealing noise...lol or I just may break it myself to stop the noise! lol

  12. The backsplash looks just like you, Penny. What a bummer to have your oven quit on you when you're doing your Christmas baking! What fun to look forward to new ones! Love the chandy! Thanks for sharing.
