I have a display cabinet in the formal living/dining room that holds my collection of Desert Rose year round. But at Christmas, it takes on a whole new holiday look with the addition of the red and green Cherry & Cable pieces I put some of the pieces of Desert Rose away to make room for some bright red and green pieces, but I leave the biggest share of them in the cabinet and just squeeze in around them. |
|
Let's open the doors to the formal living/dining room a little bit and take a peek at the cabinet |
|
I love this cabinet.....it belonged to my mother. |
|
My Grandmother started collecting Desert Rose back in the 60's It was passed down to my mother, then to me, and it will be my daughters and so on down the line. I've added lots of pieces to the original set my Grandmother had, and my mother bought me quite a few pieces too. |
|
I've tucked in a few pieces of the red and green Cherry & Cable that belonged to my mother. The stack of 3 green hob nail milk glass cake pedestals you see on top of the white silverware chest were a Christmas gift to my mother from me about 20 years ago. |
|
I didn't need to start a collection of Cherry & Cable......my mother had enough for both of us....lol! |
|
I think the mixing of pink, red, and green create such a happy look for the holidays. |
|
I have a little Christmas tree sitting on one of the Desert Rose bone plates that were a gift to me from my mother. |
|
The pretty pink thumbnail glasses in the cabinet belonged to my Grandmother....... |
|
My mother also collected butter dishes ......this pretty green one was one of her favorites. |
|
The formal dining / living room holds lots of memories....... |
and family treasures......
|
On the wall across from the this cabinet, I have another cabinet that I have been "storing" for our daughter. I've had it for years and I'm beginning to think she doesn't want it back. I'll share it another time. |
|
The formal living / dining room is pretty big. I hope to have it decorated before Christmas gets here! |
|
When (and if) I get the rest of the room decorated for Christmas , I will share it with you!
I enjoy your visits so much, come back any time! |
Your dishes are just gorgeous! My step mother had a huge set, unfortunately someone helped themselves to it and it's long gone! But I do enjoy looking at yours and remembering how my sister and I got so excited when our step mum got a new piece!
ReplyDeleteEverything is SO beautiful! I have never heard of the Cherry & Cable before and I love it! I have never seen it, either, but will be on the lookout when I'm out thrifting and antiquing! lol Thank you for sharing your beautiful display...it's all so gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteBlessings - Julie
Hi Penny! Oh, I just love your gorgeous cabinet with all of your pretty dishes. I hope you're doing well and I wish you a Merry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
I get real joy from your beautiful decorations and from your pleasure in creating them. It makes me envious, because my husband brought home a feral cat colony to save them, and they would destroy everything you see. Thank you SO MUCH for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMy, that Cherry & Cable is beautiful. I had never seen it before. What a wonderful way to use it for the season's decoration.
ReplyDeleteLovely, lovely, lovely, Penney! I love the Desert Rose pattern from Franciscan, too. I have only a very few pieces of it as I don't have room for as much as I'd like to collect. I bought my very first pieces of it when I was in my early twenties and worked in a fancy department store like we had in the old days. I had to walk through the china department to get to my department so every day I could look at all the beautiful dishes and glassware. The Desert Rose pattern caught my eye early on and I've loved it ever since. I think there is a slight design or color difference in the earlier pieces as opposed to the more recent items. Do you think that is true? It is subtle but somehow the newer pieces look different to me. I like the original ones best.
ReplyDeleteYour china cabinet looks wonderful with the pink and green and red colors. The Cherry and Cable design is completely new to me. What is it's history and where is it made? It's very unusual and gorgeous.
l don't know how you manage to do so much decorating! But I sure do like looking at it! Happy Holidays to you and your family!

Well, Penny, my dear, You just keep out doing yourself. I don't know how you do all the things you do, but I am sure glad you share with all of us.
ReplyDeleteI too have never seen or heard of Cherry and Cable. I do do love the look. The green glass is so beautiful, like emeralds.

Incredibly gorgeous. I too had never heard of Cherry and Gable but darn you, I now must get some,I love it .You have done a beautiful job displaying it. Was the cabinet always white or did you paint it? I have a similar old oak cabinet that I want to paint white but dread getting to all the wood framing around the glass from the inside of the cabinet. Anyone have any tips on that.
ReplyDeleteHi Galinda, The cabinet was originally oak. Hubby is in charge of all the painting,
Deleteand he chose to take the glass out. With the glass out, it was sooo easy to paint the inside. I liked it so well without all the glare of the glass, I chose to leave it off. The glass is safely stored behind the cabinet. xoxo
Love and love the cabinet! I fell in love those colours and the items inside. Wonderful!!!
