We Built a Greenhouse

I am so excited to show you our new greenhouse!   H and I had so much fun designing and building our greenhouse...it has truly been a labor of love.

H constructed double doors (pink of course)  and then we added double screen doors (from Lowes).
There are two windows on the back wall , so there is good airflow with both doors and windows open.   We also have a large standing fan to add more air flow if we need it.

We decided to make the steps at each end of the porch rather than at the front of the porch.....reason?....I wanted that pretty headboard across the front......lol!

This is the potting table we made for  the greenhouse.   It is made from  a door and a few other spare parts...here is a link to that post if you would like to see how it was made....

 http://penny-pennystreasures.blogspot.com/2014/03/potting-table-for-new-greenhouse.html
Last summer there was a large apple tree where the greenhouse is now....sadly, the tree died and we had to remove it.

We considered planting grass where we took the tree out....but decided to put a greenhouse there instead.

You can see how bad the tree looked...H had been cutting dead limbs off of it for several years.    We took our daughter all the wood to burn in her fireplace.

H did all of the construction,  except for the few times that he needed me to be "extra" hands.
H used his airless sprayer to apply all the paint.   We bought this sprayer about 25 years ago to use on our rent houses...it still works wonderful.    Some of you may remember that H used it last year to paint all the brick on our house.

I have a garden angel on each side of the front doors.   They are made out of screen....(bought at Tuesday Morning.)
Here you can see the two sliding windows H put in the back wall of the greenhouse.

I put my spring flags on the clothes line last week....there was one day the wind was so high,  I was surprised I didn't have to chase them clear into Texas....lol   (we live 8 miles from the Texas border)

H built a shelf on this side of the greenhouse to put some pretties on.

He has the ground around the shelf tilled up and ready for me to plant my wildflower garden.

The greenhouse is just steps away from the sun room.   It will be so nice to walk out and get fresh tomatoes and herbs this summer and on into late fall.   Our winters are very mild here in New Mexico and I am hopeful that we can have fresh tomatoes year round....I'll have to wait and see!

  6. Penny-That is the cutest greenhouse I have ever seen. It is just darling. Your hubby (and you) did a great job together. LOVE those screen doors on the front. WHAT did you use for the clear panels on top? Is that glass or a polyurethane product of some kind...or something made just for green houses? The whole thing is just beautiful!!! xo Diana
