Is it a Sun Room or a Greenhouse

Well,   it normally is a sun room,    but for now it is doubling as a green house.    I have all the plants that are usually in the green house in the early spring stashed in the sun room until we get the green house ready for them.    I'll show you later in the post what we store in the green house during the winter.

Before I show you the plants and the green house,   I wanted to share the sweet lamb that my mother made more than 20 years ago.    Here is a profile of her lamb......

And here is the lambs sweet face.
She didn't actually make the lamb.....sewing wasn't her "thang" but she could really put a glue gun to work!   As I remember....   (it was a long time ago) ......   I think she bought her lambs at Walmart and then dressed them up with ribbon,  lace,  pearls,  and little roses.    Mother,  my daughter,  my grandmother  and I did craft shows together  back in the day.

Okay,    now for the scoop on the plants and green house.

I have Boston ferns and lavender like I have every year......boring!    But,  this year I wanted to get some plants that I haven't had before.   I found these big hanging pots of Coleus at Sutherlands yesterday      I will need to read up and see how much sun and water they need so hopefully I won't kill them!

I loved the colors in the mixed flower pot.

Here is where we are on the green house.
The flower bed in front of it is cleaned out and ready for plants.

This is what the inside looks like....what a mess!     We store all the yard art in the greenhouse during the winter.    As soon as we get the yard art placed around the yard,   we can give the greenhouse a good cleaning and it will be ready for the plants.    I am really running behind this year and it's almost warm enough at night to put the plants outside.

We are making some changes to the front of the porch this spring.....well,  we kinda had to!      The headboard that has been across the front of the porch finally fell apart.     We are replacing it with wrought iron this time.....that should last a little better.

The photo on the left was taken in July last summer and you can barely see the pink head board.

The photo on the right was taken this morning.      I know the greenhouse looks like a plain Jane right now,  but wait until I'm finished she'll be pretty again!

Here's the old headboard that  H took down.    He may be able to salvage some of the stuff on it....we'll see.....most of it is rotted out.

I hope by the end of the day,   some of these plants will be in the green house!

  2. Coleus is super easy to grow and if you pinch a piece off and stick it in the ground, you will have even more coleus. My husband even likes it because it's colorful! Loved hearing about all the crafty ladies in your family.

  3. Penny,
Love the plants and the sweet lamb that you Mother made. I am told that my Maternal Grandmother was very crafty. She passed away when I was 2 years old. My mother and my sister never did crafts so I was self taught and picked p a lot from books and TV because I had no one to show me......
We got 3 inches of snow here yesterday but we were lucky because the majority of the snow was to the south and east of us.... Still no signs of Spring here....
    Hugs,
    Debbie

  7. Oh a room so full of plants looks fabulous! The coleus will produce little spikes of flowers but these take energy from the plant so pinch the flowers out to keep the maximum colour possible in the patterns on the leaves. #HomeMattersParty

  9. The sun room looks beautiful with all the colorful plants. Especially like the mixed basket with purple, yellow, and white flowers. I've always loved mixing flowers of those colors. Could you tell me what flower is growing in front of the greenhouse all the way on the left with the pink flowers? It's in the picture from last summer. I love the long stems and pink color. Thanks

  12. I love the decor in the sunroom, and the plants really add to the color. Someday I may have a greenhouse, but for now, I store my plants in our sunroom. It is not as pretty as yours. Do you anticipate it being done before summer?

  13. I plainly love all your posts and the spring sprucing you've done push me to get moving, this year is starting slow for a lot of us because last year was exhausting with the late summer heat. I don't have the space you have but use your ideas on a smaller scale. You're the best!
